My Students

I teach a large and boisterous bunch of soon to be 4th graders. A unique group of children discovering their worlds, finding their friend groups, and exploring new things.

In a classroom full of wonder, my students embrace each day, eager to learn with their whole lives ahead of them.

In the prime of their childhood, my students are finding their independence and confidence and flaunting it.

Think back to when you were 9 or 10 years old. Maybe you were just learning to ride a bike. Playing on your first little league team. Finally able to convince your mom to buy you a pet. Or even experiencing your first crush! Reliving your own childhood is fun, but being a part of shaping another child's best years is priceless.

My Project

"What do you want to be when you grow up?" The most common question educators ask young children. In awe of their innocent answers full of hopes and dreams we smile with encouragement that one day they will become who they want to be.

But what if we rephrased the question to, "What do you want to be if you grow up?" Their entire perspectives would change, dimming their youthful innocence like flickering flames.

This is precisely what we are doing by not adjusting to the times and protecting our students in the classroom the way they deserve. The world has changed, whether we like it or not, and in some cases for the uglier. Places that used to feel safe don't anymore. One place, in particular, being schools. Places of growth and learning have become targets of terror. And children have suffered the consequences.

As teachers, our most basic job is to make sure our students are safe. Yet without any real tools of defense, how can we honestly uphold that truth to ourselves, to their parents, to our students? So instead of turning a blind eye, I want to make proactive choices to adapt; to create a safer classroom, re-igniting their hopes and dreams rather than extinguishing them.

With The Barracuda Defense Systems, I will be giving my students the best chance at being and feeling safe, should an intruder ever enter the building. Able to be installed to the classroom door in seconds, Barracuda Defense tools are a quick and easy defense to use when time is of the essence. Rather than positioning 9 and 10 year olds around the room to fend off against high powered weapons or dangerous individuals, why not take the proactive approach to try and prevent the worst before it's too late.
