Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work at a special education school, serving emotionally disturbed, learning disabled, and other special education classified students. Our students come from low socio-economic backgrounds in New York City. Over 95% of the student body is eligible for free lunch, and more than 90% receive public assistance.
I have a self-contained classroom, which educates students with specialized learning needs. During classroom lessons, my students learn the basics of Math, English, Science, and Social Studies. They only venture out of my classroom for their elective courses and lunch, so the majority of their studies are done in my room alone.
My students would like to obtain new rugs for their school hallways. During the winter months, my kids are slipping & sliding in the halls because there are linoleum floors throughout the building. This creates a very unsafe environment for my students, who are out in the halls several times per day. These new rugs will also provide a "new look" for our school building, making it more inviting.

Our names are Kobi, Neishawn, Reyoko, Johanna, Kadesha, Miguel, Onyea, Khalil, Beverly, and Juliana. We are all students in Ms. F's class and are excited to write this proposal together. We have seen Ms. F buy a lot of school supplies, and told her we want to help get more things we need to have a better & safer learning environment. Rugs in our hallways are at the top of our priority list!
We are taking the collective lead on this project by writing the proposal and researching the best rugs for our building. We found that Quill.com has great prices, a superb customer service record, and quick shipping. This company stocks the rugs we need to keep our building in tip-top shape. They are great quality and will last for many years.
Most of us live in foster homes, low-income housing, group homes, and shelters, so it's extremely difficult to raise the funds for our building needs. Ms. F often pays out of pocket, but it's hard to keep up with the demand. Here's hoping we get some love and support through DonorsChoose.org.
