My students need a ring toss game, a croquet set and a flying disc as new equipment since most of ours is heavily worn or damaged. We are moving from a K-5 school to K-2 so I will be working with younger children.
I have the opportunity to work with some of the best kids. My students are very loving children and yearn for acceptance and want to please. Our school is on a 100% free and reduced lunch schedule accommodating kids from very low socioeconomic backgrounds.
Many of my students come from homes that have an extremely hard time just making ends meet on a daily basis.
Each day these children come in with different emotions depending on what they might have experienced the night before. It is difficult for any child to learn when they are emotionally stressed and tired from not getting enough sleep.
Our school tries to reach out to the community for support of our families. Several churches and local business help by supplying food bags for those in need as well as financial support in some severe cases. Our teachers and staff are consistently working to improve the well being of our students and there families. However, there is only so much we can do which always leaves someone without the resources they need for their family.
My Project
Our school is going to have a new look next year. We are transitioning from a K-5 school to K-2 only. With the bigger children gone, there is a need for new, more appropriate equipment for younger children.
Most of our equipment is really old, aged, worn, and damaged.
We seldom have the opportunity to upgrade our gym supply so we end up having to try and repair old equipment that is defective or just plain worn out. A lot of our things should have been thrown out before now and are not safe, especially for K-2 aged children.
We want our children to learn through physical fitness activities, games, and Instructional information in a safe environment. This can only happen through the continual upgrading and replacement of old damaged equipment.
I would like to have the Hand-Eye Coordination Kit for my students as it is age appropriate and my students are in need of many activities that promote their hand-eye coordination through catching, throwing, moving, and manipulation of their fine motor skills. The Ring Toss equipment will also help to enhance my student's ability to understand the concept of force and motion, distance, accuracy, and coordination of their motor skills. The Intermediate Croquet set and the Flying Disc set will also be used in conjunction with the other equipment to fine tune these skills.
We are in desperate need to supply our new students with these supplies so that they can successfully grow and become more physically fit and healthier young people.
