This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
In my ninth through twelve grade, a diverse population of high school students is coming back to school under a variety of circumstances including a pandemic. They are going to need a lot of support.
It has been a pretty tough year for all of us all around, but these children, being from poor homes as defined by our Title I school district status (100% free lunch), have had a much more disappointing and difficult time.
Approximately 95% of our school population is African American. The students are mostly from single-parent households. My students (9th - 12th grade) are bright, energetic, talented, and resourceful.
After a pretty disappointing last school year, it is my desire to make it our class as safe and clean as possible as we start to return to face to face instruction during this pandemic.
My Project
I have students who are learning from home and learning from school. as a school. we have decided on the Hybrid model, which is challenging but we manage to make the best out of the situation.
At school, we would like to go the extra mile to make sure we are safe in the environment, so I would like to add supplies such as masks, sanitizer tissue, paper towels, trash bags, and cleaners.
Also, Some students may not have masks for whatever reason at school or at home, especially disposable ones. I have found that some are reusing those disposable gloves which may not be as protective.
In general, students may not have access to sanitizer, masks, and cleaning supplies and I'd like to provide them with these resources in order to be safe. I would like to make care bags for students to have as well as keep supplies in our classroom to use as the need arise. We want to provide our students with an education, but it is safety first. Will you help?
