Our school is located in Oroville, Northern CA and has beautiful student-tended school gardens. The students represent the diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds of a small community. Many of them face challenges and traumas in their families resulting from poverty, drug use, early deaths and incarceration. Our school offers 100% free breakfast and lunch and work with the families and various local agencies to offer students a positive learning environment and a quality education.
Despite challenges, our students are curious and excited to come to school.
They enjoy the school where they learn not only academics but to develop healthy and positive relationships conducive to their well-being and success.
Students sometimes need a safe spot to go when they are stressed, tired or need to solve a conflict with a peer, without disturbing the classroom. The bean bags will provide a place for them to sit down and relax for a few minutes or talk to a peer about a problem they're having. The bean bags will be placed in the back of the classroom to provide 1-2 students a place to relax and talk, practicing relaxation techniques and conflict-resolution skills learned in the classroom.
The safe zone helps to decrease students' discipline issues, loss of learning time and increase well-being and academic success.
