Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The community I serve is composed of Hispanic and Latino students from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Despite their circumstances, my students are full of energy and curiosity for new things and subjects. A large majority of students at my school are being raised by their grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc., because either their parents are not around, or their parents are working multiple jobs or long hours.
Even though many of my students face hardships, they are the sweetest bunch around and are always eager to be at school and learn.
My Project
Over the summer the water at our school was tested. The district had to fix our water system. We have been told that our water is at acceptable levels. However, I would feel so much more comfortable if I was able to provide clean drinking water to my students. My hope is for students to bring water bottles from home and if they need to refill their bottle they would fill it up from the water cooler. This way they may drink as much water as needed to stay hydrated. It is the best way to ensure my students water is safe and give both me and my parents a peace of mind.
