My students need filters, a spigot, and dispenser for access to safe drinking water in their school and classroom at no cost to their families and little disruption to their learning environment.

My students are just getting to know the wonderful school system that is the DPCS and I hope to instill the love of school in them. I love that they are open to this and that they come to school ready to learn and ready to grow with each new item I bring to them.
That is one of the greatest things about kindergartners; they love to learn and they teach you right back.
Each time I enter my classroom, I not only expect to teach my students but I expect to learn from them as well. They have new perspectives and new ideas that I have never thought of, which help the class learn as a whole.
In my class specifically, we have peer-teaching time, where students group up and help each other in their learning laboratories to explore different topics. Even though there are different end goals we would like the students to get to; they often end up in many different places than we imagined they could.
My students come from lower income families in Detroit and currently, it is coming to light in the media. Although it is no surprise to many locals, there are dangerously high amounts of lead in the drinking water. Students are not allowed to bring water bottles to schools and yet, there are no safe drinking fountains, and only one working fountain in the school itself.
All students deserve safe drinking water; and that includes my self.
With the zerowater filter, I will be able to provide the safe water to my kindergartners and the filter and replacements to continue providing it for the year. They need water so they can continue working throughout the day, including after each brain break and recess break we have.
