This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are some of the most wonderful, creative, intuitive and exciting kids that I have ever met. Sadly, many times they are forgotten. They are the students who have been left behind because they are sometimes hard to reach when it comes to academics.
These students deserve so much more than to be forgotten about; they deserve an engaging and individualized education.
All students must have an IEP to be in my class. This means that these students need this individualized education to succeed in school.
My Project
My project may seem like lot of random stuff (because it is), but these things help keep my classes running smoothly everyday. Things like the markers, glue sticks, puzzles, Play-Doh, command strips, and floss will help keep my lessons updated and interesting. My students require hands on activities to succeed, and these materials will help me give them that. Right now, we are focusing on teeth health as well as mental health.
My classes focus on functional academics, so I am constantly trying to incorporate my lessons into real life scenarios.
For my students with Autism, that means learning how to regulate themselves even with lots of outside stimulus. The other materials for this project such as the sand and the applesauce will give them a positive stimulus to help control and regulate their behavior.
