This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a teacher in an amazing low-income bilingual school. They are faced with several challenges. I want to help my students in as many ways as possible and empower them to share their learning with peers. As a primary grade teacher, I know that I need to instill a love of reading and writing in all of my students. In order to accomplish this my students need to be safe in the classroom. I hope I never need to use these safety devices, but always want to be prepared.

My Project

These safety latches will help keep my students safe if we ever need to go into another lock-down situation. After another school shooting has occurred it is critical that I am able to keep my students safe in any safety situation. These devices will add an additional obstacle for anyone that tries to enter our classroom during a lock-down.

I have two classroom doors both of which I keep locked throughout the school day.

Our campus is however an open campus so these will provide extra protection for my first graders. Although I hope I never need to use them in a real situation it is possible they could save a life.
