My Students

As a teacher in a Title I low-income school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and outside of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences by incorporating technology, sensory items and everyday living skills into our classroom.

My students are uniquely different in many ways, and as a teacher of a self-contained Autism Spectrum Disorder classroom, we are constantly creating new learning experiences.

I have students who are nonverbal to on-grade-level. It is very important to meet the needs of each and every student in my classroom.

My Project

Sensory toys are used to provide children a particular sensory output that they may crave. It may be visual or tactile that can grab the child's attention. Many people on the Autism Spectrum have difficulty processing everyday sensory information.

Sensory play can help students with autism calm down, stimulate their senses, and develop important life skills.

It allows all students to be engaged and participate in activities dealing with touch, smell, taste, movement, sight, and hearing. Providing these items for our classroom will give each and every one of my students a way to express their sensory needs. These sensory items can help support positive behavior as well.

Some of the items requested will also help support communication, and meet the needs of their individuals education plans. By using the learning resources Dino- sorters, little tikes water factory, and papa too dinosaur child hammock we will be incorporating many different experiences for the students to explore through all of these fun activities and stations!
