My Students

This is the first year that many of my students will experience science laboratory experiments. Their excitement is contagious and I love to listen to their discoveries. We focus on safe lab procedures and they get to read while sharing ideas about what safety means to them. Come and join us!

My science students are a heterogeneous group.

Their strengths range from accelerated to learning disabled. I have reading levels from 9th grade to 1st grade, but their love of learning extends those parameters. They work together and they learn from each other. Their unique blend of strengths create an electric vibe in the room.

My Project

My students need a class set of graphic novels to learn about lab safety from Max Axiom, The Super Scientist, prior to our lab experiments! The series of graphic non-fiction books are engaging to all readers. The color illustrations motivate reluctant readers and the text challenges avid readers. Max Axiom brings science to life and the kids love reading about his methods from problem solving to identification of organisms.

The addition of Max Axiom to my classroom to help students continue reading will build on prior reading skills and encourage students to explore their creativity in a colorful, action-packed way.
