My students need a learning environment that is engaging and safe. Requesting for a carpet, floor seats, and book bins is one small step in making that a reality. This is what is going to help them be successful 21st-century learners.
Our students are from social, economic and behaviorally challenged backgrounds. It can be hard for them to focus on learning when they're more worried about what is happening at home for the day, where their next meal will come from or how their sibling will be getting home.
My goal is for my students to come to school and be excited about their learning environment.
I want them to walk into the room and feel safe and comfortable in a space designed just for them. I want my students to feel successful whether their standing, laying down, sitting down or walking the room. Students can do their best when they are comfortable and confident in their environment. I know I'll be able to reach more students if I can provide a calming and safe place for them to be.
Ultimately I want students to feel safe, confident and successful and the first step is for them to walk into a classroom that is prepared for their styles of learning.
My Project
My project is to work towards a more personalized learning environment. The goal is for these students to find comfort and safety in not only their learning space, but also their learning styles.
Students are more successful when they are comfortable and feel at ease in their environment.
The best way to achieve this is to provide an environment that feels happy and welcoming. Some of the materials are a rug to use as a designated reading space, stools for flexible seating, and bins to keep their work in for organization. These materials will provide a space that most of my students will not experience otherwise. The materials will provide an inviting and fun space for students to engage in the projects they will be working on.
