This will be my first year as a 4th and 5th grade teacher, as I am changing schools within my current district. My school has a high poverty population, with many students coming from low income or low social economic status families. My students will be continuing their education in a new school setting, learning how to adapt, work, and be successful in a new place. They will focus on social skills as well as academics.
Social and academic growth will be a focus in my classroom.
Since my students come from low income and low social economic status families, they need access to quality education and materials. Having access to quality materials will help students to be successful without worrying about not being prepared. Book boxes, library bins, and classroom storage will allow students to store their materials safely and decrease the possibility of damage. When students' materials are kept safe, they last longer and students are able to get more use out of their supplies. Many students also do not have funds available to be able to purchase necessary supplies and this would help them to have what they need to be successful.
My Project
Students in my classroom will be focusing on math and literacy. The book bins and library bins will help students to keep their books organized in a safe place. The large drawer bins will store math and literacy games for students to use independently and in pairs, when not participating in whole group activities. Lastly, the supply caddies will store students' pencils, crayons, scissors, and more.
These supplies will help students to learn organizational skills as well as always have a place to store their materials.
Students will be able to transition easily between subject matters, with help from these storage materials. Students will know where materials can be found as well as put away and stored, helping cut down on transition time.
