As nine and ten year olds, my fourth grade students are expected to prepare to enter a world fluent in technological ability. Many present day academic curriculums include an online platform, resources, and materials for students to use in tandem with traditional assignments and project related learning methods.
Along with these key skills, organization, care, and responsibility are important parts of becoming successful, well-rounded members of the community.
These skills are practiced on a daily basis throughout the academic day. Our class is very fortunate to have a class set of Chromebooks that allow students of all abilities to access the curriculum, resources, and materials needed to be successful in the 21st century. However, with 33 Chromebooks, chargers, and students, it can quickly become an issue with storage and proper care of equipment. By the time 33 students are able to find the correct cord for their model of Chromebook, plug it in, and prepare for the next lesson, much time has been cut from the daily routine.
We need a safe, well-organized, and mobile solution. Our students would benefit from a storage cart that allows Chromebooks to be plugged in, organized, and readily available for student success.
My Project
With access to this cart, students will be able to efficiently use Chromebooks as needed for academic success. As fourth graders, time needs to be used wisely. This cart will help to eliminate transition time needed to prepare and clean up from lessons.
With the ability to charge devices effectively, students will no longer be faced with the realization that their Chromebook is not charged and unable to use.
This cart will create equity within the classroom and provide access to all students. A clear organizational method will also train students to take care of their equipment for continued learning.
