Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have a few days until I finally meet my new students. But even though I don't know them yet, I have a growth mindset for each child and am excited to guide their learning this school year. Like most kindergarten and first-grade students, I know this new batch will be curious, generous, kind, and intelligent in many ways. They will be building their identities as readers, writers, mathematicians, and most importantly, as little activists. And because I teach in a dual-language Spanish classroom, we will also be strengthening our bilingual brains.
I already love my students and can't wait to meet them.
I really hope they find inspiration in my classroom and develop a life long joy for learning!
My Project
This year, I will be teaching a multi-age group made up of kindergarten and first-grade students. We are so excited for all the hands-on math we will be doing this year but we need to make sure our math collections stay organized. Our collections are made up of math objects but also every day items like buttons and bottle caps that we use to practice counting.
We desperately need a way to organize materials for counting math collections.
Having this kind of organizational tool will help us break into small groups quickly and neatly. This will also give me more time to coach students into more efficient ways of counting.
