We are a class of Kindergarten students in a new Spanish Immersion Program with the desire to embrace the Spanish language through an integrated thematic approach.
Our class is comprised of 25 lively, bright, inspiring, energetic, inquisitive, loving and eager students from different social economic backgrounds with the common desire to be bilingual and biliterate in Spanish.
Many students receive free or reduced-price lunch, come from low social economic status and attend school with beautiful hearts and the desire to learn.
As a Spanish Immersion Teacher, one of the challenges that I am constantly faced with is the access to or lack of Spanish materials for my classroom. With this donation, I would be able to provide my class with materials in Spanish that are in line with the new Common Core Standards. In addition, these materials would enhance my teaching by providing a vehicle in which instruction could be delivered with an integrated approach through language arts in a child-friendly manner.
The reading materials will provide my students with resources to support guided reading and centers.
I visualize our class diving into the sight words and syllable cards in small groups eager to read, analyze and question the content presented. Furthermore, the children would be supported in blending, segmenting and reading in Spanish.
