My students need highlighters to help identify and understand the complex Russian grammar, and stickers for when they master concepts! Russian Scrabble will help build their vocabulary and Russian cartoons will let them enjoy Russian culture.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 60% of our students receiving free lunch. Our school is also one of the most diverse schools in Las Vegas. As diverse as our students are economically and culturally, they are diverse in their academics as well. Our school is home to a wonderful Public Service magnet program, focusing on careers in Law Enforcement, Crime Scene Investigations, Criminal Justice, EMS and 911 Dispatching. In addition, many students are excited to learn Russian and go into federal law enforcement careers!
My Project
Russian grammar is incredibly complex for English speakers to learn. Color coding the different aspects of the language with class sets of highlighters will help students identify the function of various endings and words in Russian sentences. They will be able to take their color coded notes home with them (they do not have textbooks to keep at home), and their notes will make sense as we break down the grammar to help them with their homework. As they master their new language through games, such as Russian Scrabble and watching Russian cartoons, they also need encouragement and motivation through the tried and true method of....STICKERS! And for the absolutely outstanding, a Russian nesting doll keychain.
