My school is located in a small, rural town near the coast of South Carolina. My school is a Title I elementary school serving over 800 students, with most students receiving free lunch and breakfast. Even though most of our students do not have much, they are kind and generous with what they do have. My students come to me for support in reading and math and each has a strong desire to improve.
I get to claim some of the coolest kids in our large, rural elementary school as my students, and I am lucky enough to have them for multiple years.
My Project
We have a unique problem in my classroom. At the end of last school year, we were blessed with the unexpected purchase of more than 1200 books for my students. We did not have room for these so new bookcases were requested and funded through DonorsChoose.org. The bookcases have arrived and the books are being unpacked, labeled, and available for students to enjoy. Our new dilemma is that the tubs included with the Daily 5 libraries are a bit large. Having these School Smart totes will allow us to have all of the libraries available to my students using the minimum amount of space.
A well organized library is a must for any grade level but is especially important when you serve students in grades 1-5.
They have to be able to find and select books that are at their just right level but also that are of a genre or topic that they are interested in. These totes will help us to keep our library organized.
DonorsChoose is the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
As a teacher-founded nonprofit, we're trusted by thousands of teachers and supporters across the country. This classroom request for funding was created by Mrs. Thornell and reviewed by the DonorsChoose team.
