This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My classroom is a seventh grade classroom in the city of Brockton. We are located in the heart of a low income area where school supplies are always needed.
My kids are great kids.
They come from very diverse backgrounds and almost all come from low income homes. Many of these homes are single parent homes and my kids find themselves caring for younger siblings on a regular basis.
A major percentage of our kids are ELL learners which means that they are either currently learning the English language or had to in the past. In most of my students homes, English is not the primary language.
My Project
My students need a variety of pencils and a variety of erasers to complete all the different writing projects that we will be doing this year. We are putting a great deal of emphasis on literacy and writing in my school. We are asking our students to write on a daily basis through expository, persuasive, summary and creative writing. These pencils and erasers will allow our kids to get "write" to work and not have to worry about a lack of materials. These writing supplies will help our kids transfer their ideas from their mind to paper daily.
These materials will help make our kids better writers and better students.
By becoming better writers my kids will better grasp the English language and be able to take control of their academic futures.
