Picture this. You're zooming down a tree-lined trail, accompanied by your closest friends whom you've known for years, but are in other classes for most of the day. Your legs are carrying you with the confidence that comes from finding a strength you never knew you had. You hear the whistle and check your mileage card. You ran farther than you ever have before! You grab a quick snack and a drink, and head on into your classroom boosted with the assuredness that you're ready for whatever today throws at you.
For our student runners, this is a typical Tuesday and Thursday morning: making friends, meeting goals, and surprising yourself in ever-changing ways.... all before the morning bell rings at 7:25 AM.
The J.D. Lever Run With Pride running club is made up of students in grades 1-5. We welcome everybody to our team... because when we run, we roar!
My Project
Since our school doesn't have a track, we've planned a route that laps around the two playgrounds. Having cones to lay out will help new and younger runners follow the route, and will encourage all runners to complete the full distance. Our meets take place in the hot South Carolina sun, so a drink cooler and electrolyte mix will keep our runners hydrated and fresh for racing. Finally, a megaphone and stopwatch will help us round up and motivate our runners at both practice and meets! Since our running club is part of a multi-school league, it can get a bit hectic at meets. Having a megaphone will allow us to easily communicate with parent volunteers and runners.
