As reported by most researchers today, most high school students are in need of physical activities that they can carry into adulthood. Childhood obesity in on the increase and I am looking for ways to curb this effect. Therefore, I am requesting funds to purchase a pair of running shoes for ten of my most financially needy students who have exhibited interest in running in our intra-mural athletic program. I am a Physical Education teacher at Lowell High School in San Francisco and we are currently listed on the Federal Deptartment of Education's list of low-income schools. The student population coming from low income households is 33%. As a result, we have students attending our school who do not have the financial ability to purchase a pair of running shoes. I believe it is vital to have a supportive, correctly fitted shoe in order to prevent any possible running-related injuries. I am requesting a donation for 10 pairs of running shoes for financially needy students who have shown an interest in continuing their run for fitness program. These highly motivated students will continue to run for fitness long after they complete their required physical education class and continue to stay physically fit into their adulthood.
