Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My fifth grade science and social studies students are bright, engaged learners who are learning to take ownership of their education. They benefit from flexible scheduling and seating, meaning they frequently have freedom to choose what they work on and where they sit at any given time. They learn how to set achievable goals, and discover how to meet them. They are encouraged to exercise personal autonomy to make smart choices about where they sit, who they work with, and how they manage their time on a daily basis.
These ambitious fifth graders direct their own learning through the use of personalized learning tools, collaboration, and project-based learning.
This work can sometimes be challenging for them, but they consistently rise to the occasion. Throughout the year, students learn to be independent workers who embrace struggle and celebrate their accomplishments.
My Project
As the 2018-2019 school year approaches, our classroom is in need of some basic upgrades. Students need to learn in a comfortable and relaxed environment. Updated rugs and lighting for the classroom will help students to focus and learn in a setting that fits their needs. Other basics such as HDMI cords, extension cords and a new classroom speaker ensure that they will have basic access to technology resources. Students constantly benefit from the opportunity to use basic technology to watch educational videos during lessons, charge Chromebooks as needed, and listen to relaxing music as they work. These basic supplies will allow them to start the school year with these opportunities!
