This coming school year, I was moved to a different school in the district. I have also switched teaching responsibilities from Kindergarten to Computer Lab. I am up for the challenge and I love being able to help my students by giving them enriching classroom equipment.
Our school is in a rural, mountainous area of our state.
It is very beautiful, has a small town atmosphere, and everybody seems to know everybody. It makes for a very enriching experience.
Our school, like many others, is facing budget shortfalls. Often we make do with equipment, furniture, and supplies that are older. I love to help my students because they do so much for me. I learn life lessons every single day for my students and love them all.
My Project
I am a technology lab teacher, which I love. I teach from PreK up to 5th grade. The older students have very few issues listening to large group instructions from their seats in front of the computers. For the younger students, they are often too busy clicking and pushing buttons to focus on all the directions being given. That is where a rug comes in.
I like to gather my younger students together on the floor in front of our classroom smartboard before beginning anything new.
This gives them the opportunity to focus on what is being explained. I have a perfect little spot for this instruction to take place. However, our school has no carpet anywhere in the building and linoleum can get hard and cold on the backside.
Having a warm, colorful rug for them to congregate on would alleviate the issue of where to sit. At the moment, we pull out chairs and put them back for the next group. A rug would be simpler, more cozy and much more effective as seating for the younger students during large group activities.
