This year I am teaching in an extended resource classroom in Norwalk, Connecticut. It is a a regular middle school, but our classroom is the only one of it's kind. I have many students who have mild to severe disabilities. We work on life skills and the students go out to other classes to be with general education peers at some parts within the day.
Our class serves students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder and specific learning disabilities.
We want to give our students just as engaging and stimulating a learning experience as the other schools.
My students need a rug in the reading and morning meeting area. As of right now we have a carpeted floor that has a lot of rips and tears in it. Because of the special make-up of the students in my class, I need a rug where I can space specific students out. I also need leveled seating. Right now, they are all sitting at one level. It makes it difficult in some of the behavior and safety plans to have all the students sitting at the same level of seating. This rug would provide a nice clean and comfy space for the students to sit on during reading time.
