Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students attend a Title I school with most of my students coming from low, socioeconomic backgrounds, and many of them are below grade level in reading. Students at my school are inquisitive, compassionate, and creative but a few do not view reading as fun they see it as hard so they avoid becoming a good reader. My third graders have a variety of differences and learning abilities from beginning readers to above average in their reading skills. Some of my students do not read outside of school or have support outside the classroom so they need resources to encourage reading and make it fun as well as help them feel successful.
My Project
Our floors have no carpet or soft space for students to sit while reading. These rugs and seats will give my students a comfy and cozy place to read with a friend or by themselves. This coming school year our class will focus on reading and social studies. Having a rug or two to enhance a personal or partner reading space will allow students to expand their imagination and strengthen their reading skills in a special space throughout the day. These rugs and cozy seats will provide a comfortable and warm reading space for our third graders.
