Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are primarily second language learners, they come from all over the world and bring an eager will to learn. The great majority come from economically disadvantaged background. Their parents have made a lot of sacrifices to provide their child with a safe and nurturing environment, where they can receive a first world education, and maybe break the poverty cycle. The multitude of cultures that are represented in my classroom is a great asset to the learning environment. Their joyful nature brings a smile to my face on the daily basis.
My Project
Having a clear and defined space will make a world of difference. This rug will be used during our whole group instruction. It has defined rectangles which will be marked with each student's name so there is no conflict about location on the rug. This will result in cutting down distractions during instruction. Each student prefers to have their own little space. It will also facilitate the "turn and talk" component of the lesson, because they will have room to move without bumping into their classmates.
Anything that can be done to make learning fun and conflict free is worth trying.
This rug will change my students' learning experience by providing them with a personal defined space, where they can pay attention to instruction and dialog with their classmates without getting disturbed.
