This is my second year teaching at my school, and my second year of teaching in general. I am taking over a classroom that has not had much success in the past, but am quickly managing to turn the reputation around. My students feel safe and welcomed by me, but my classroom decor is another story. I feel students would immensely benefit from having ample supplies with which to do well, in an environment that is aesthetically pleasing.
My students are highly creative, considerate, and desperate to learn.
My students need resources to be successful in my classroom in preparation for high school. Our district suffers from an above average poverty rate, and our school specifically has free breakfast and lunch for all students due to said poverty.
Despite the reputation, my students are encouraged to rise above. I love that my students are determined and headstrong. I hope to help students successfully harness their strengths and assist with applying that to their writing. I engage my students with relevant and reflective writing prompts and opportunities for creative freedom.
My Project
These materials will make or break our school year. Without these materials, I will be required to provide them myself out of pocket, which proves very difficult as I have 4 children of my own to get school supplies for.
All materials will have several instances of use, from the posters which will decorate our classroom to the markers and pencils we will use for several different projects.
I know that what you do with your money matters, and I hope you'll consider helping me change the lives of several adolescents in Milwood Magnet School and the Kalamazoo Public Schools district.
