My Students

The students in my school that visit the library media center are bright and full of untapped potential. The kids range from pre-k to fifth grade. This Title 1 small city school welcomes students from many different backgrounds and a significant number of students from low income families. They are in need of a warm library media environment to support creative and stem opportunities in the the school setting.

With the support of our school community, we are working to make changes that keep our library programming aligned with best practices, current trends and engaging!

My Project

By requesting Rubik's Cubes, our Pre-K to Grade 5 (285 students including many with disabilities) school library is continuing its efforts in providing our students with hands-on experiences in addition to our literary and technology coursework. As we continue to add Makerspace supplies to be used in the library, we would like to add a collection of Rubik's Cubes at varying ability levels, to be offered for check-out/borrowing by students.

Rubik's Cubes are a fun way to get kids thinking using mathematical and problem-solving skills.

They require students to apply a growth mindset and are a major confidence booster as students persevere toward success. Just as students are able to borrow books from the library, we would like to offer the Rubik's Cubes as well. The games don't require any additional materials or supports from adults which make them appealing to the students in our school.

We would like to continue our progress in becoming the learning hub (and hopefully heart) of the school. The Rubik's Cubes will keep kids excited about coming to the library and
