My Students

Our sixth-grade-only school is adopting a STEAM magnet concept beginning with the 2015-16 school year. Along with the idea of inter-disciplinary projects, we will also be leading clubs for the first time ever. As a math teacher, I would like to offer a Rubik's Cube Club.

My students and school are very technology oriented.

I look forward to offering an oldie but goodie Rubik's Cube club to students from across our large student body as we meet once every other week. Twelve students will be members of this club each semester, so 24 total students will benefit from this opportunity. The boys and girls will come from all levels of math ability as we work together to master The Cube.

My Project

I look forward to seeing them make the math connection to The Cube as they explore it (many for the first time ever) and incorporate the lessons available from the You Can Do the Cube website. There are videos and instructional materials that will help us explore those connection. But, more importantly, they will be challenged and hopefully just have fun!

I was excited to see The Cube's website has a direct correlation to Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM).

Our school will also be adding an A for Art (STEAM), and The Rubik's Cube connects to this whole program. I want to be a part of making our students college and career ready. Problem solving is a huge part of that, and I believe the students will be able to apply new problem solving and team-work strategies in each of their classes this year and in the future.
