This will be an exciting yet challenging year for me as I embark on the adventure of teaching second grade and kindergarten in the same day! I love these ages. They are still excited to learn yet independent! This is my 10th year teaching, and I love every minute of it. I teach in a farming community so you have the down home feel! Students tend to the farm and farm animals at night. I love my rural community.
At this age, they are so eager to learn and become excited when they learn their sight words and can read on their own.
Students at this age love to learn. I am trying to "Set the Stage" to engage! My students thrive on hands-on activities that encourage learning that are not worksheets.
My Project
The books I selected for this projects are books that go along with the reading program Rooted in Reading. I have noticed they are books that are not easily found and students may not have heard over and over again like most books in their home.
These books are books that are going to set the stage to engage for lessons throughout the month.
These books will set the tone and capture the students’ interests and gain their attention.
Each book has activities and learning experiences tied to each one. For example, The Smallest Girl in the Smallest Grade will be used in Kindergarten to show the students how each are important at school. We will make a bus activity to tie it all together. Or the book This is My Book can be used in second and Kindergarten.
