Celebrate Black Teachers and Students
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
In a school with a high poverty population, my students struggle with challenges inside and outside the classroom. Yet these students come in ready to learn and grow each day. Their creativity and positive spirits are infectious. In our high energy classroom, we are always looking for ways to increase engagement and raise the bar. My students are always up for the challenge, working hard to push past their struggles and reach for their goals. They have so much to offer the world and I enjoy working with them to unlock their potential!
My Project
It is tough to keep students motivated and engaged when using reading textbooks. Students can lose interest and view reading as a chore. We are excited to try a new reading program and breathe new life into our classroom reading instruction. We will be using picture books with engaging text that make the story come alive, while increasing the rigor in the class and learning all the necessary reading skills!
These books bring a depth to our reading instruction that will light the love of reading for each student that will last a lifetime! Our goal is to teach the reading skills and foster the love of reading. Students will gain a deeper understanding of the skills as we make learning fun and interesting!
