Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is in a Title 1 school. Most of our kids come from a low socioeconomic background. Many of them have experienced trauma in their lives and may have difficulty coming to school. The typical student in my class reads below a third grade level and many struggles with basic phonics. They work hard every day to beat the odds and strive for greatness. The more resources, the better. All kids need and want a fair chance at an education.
My Project
These supplies will be used in various room transformations throughout the school year. Different themes include a western transformation for persuasive texts and writing conventions, ninja turtle theme for context clues and vocabulary, Mario for content questions, and super hero for writing topics and text evidence. Little things like hats, glasses, backdrops, and wearable turtle shells help set the stage for these adventures in learning. All these details make the content come alive for our students.
Room transformations get our students excited to learn and turn these lessons into educational memories.
They make the work engaging and help our students hold on to their new knowledge. The more inviting and exciting we make the environment, the more into the learning the students get.
