My students need an all-in-one CD player, text sets on CD, and comfortable reading chairs, in order to create a warm and inviting reading environment that will encourage sustained and engaged reading.
My sixth grade scholars deserve every possible support and learning activity that will guide them to success both inside and outside of school. We all work together in our small, rural elementary school so that our students may be successful achieving their academic, physical, social, and emotional goals. Our school has a near 50% free and reduced price lunch population, but our progress and goals attainment demonstrate that hard work and a school-wide positive learning environment can overcome obstacles such as poverty.

Sixth graders need both copious opportunities to read and texts that encourage them as readers. Some of my students require higher level texts, while other students need more scaffolding and creative supports. When my students engage in reading activities, they become better readers. It is always my goal, then, to create a positive and encouraging environment where my students want to read and enjoy reading.
My Project
Creating a room that supports and encourages reading is critical, especially for struggling readers. To support my Room for Reading, my students will need a special CD player that supports up to 8 readers. They will also need new text sets that come with a digital recording of the stories. Greek roots activities will be used to investigate unfamiliar words from the stories. Flex Space Comfy Floor seats will provide my students that extra-special comfort needed to immerse themselves in the stories.
These reading tools will provide my scholars with the supports that they need to become engaged and successful readers.
All readers need to feel encouraged and supported. Struggling readers need even more assistance. Together the CD player, text sets, and comfy reading chairs will promote reading and increase literacy success for ALL of my scholars.
