My Students
Our school was built in 1964 and I'm teaching for the 21st century student... Will you help to revolutionize this old school with some new supplies to meet the needs of our students?
I teach Film and Fine Art in the Recovery School District and the majority of my students receive free or reduced lunch (approx.
90%). My 9-12 graders are wonderful, with the whole world in front of them! As a school we are limited in our spending and film equipment is expensive. Buying chairs takes priority over cameras. This charter school sends students to Ivy League schools, despite lack of funding. My students live in an urban and dangerous city. It's important to provide students with my course because it offers them an avenue to process the world around them.
Film is a great way for youth to document and analyze their perspective. I challenge students to always strive to improve and commend them every time they try. I give my all in all I do on behalf of my students, and encourage the kids to do the same. Support a school that supports great kids. Your donation will give my students tools to creatively express, explore and process their perspectives through producing art.
My Project
I am requesting camcorders, memory cards, a light box and optical set (to explain light and explore alternative film processes). My students learn critical thinking skills and how to evaluate the world around them through analyzing film and photography.
Your donation will provide my students with the resources they need to excel in class. Without these resources the focus of the class in on appreciation instead of production. I believe it's invaluable for children to have a space in school where they're supported for creativity. It's difficult to turn down good ideas because we don't have the equipment. Providing my students with this equipment will give them resources to explore their ideas and gain self confidence in their work. All students should be supported and challenged. I know I did my job when a student thanks me after struggling with a difficult assignment and succeeding. With your help, my students can challenge themselves and gain confidence in the works of art they produce.
Our students will use this equipment to document for a yearbook that we could not produce last year.
Our students will be able to express themselves in a way that teaches them technical abilities that can translate to job related skills for their future. Any donation you could offer would be greatly appreciated and do some real good for great kids that deserve a chance to excel.
