My Project

In a Communication Behavior Focus Classroom, behavior is communication, which can be unsafe at times. Chairs are often tipped over or thrown. Plastic cube chairs will reduce the possibility of harm in the classroom. Currently in our classroom we have metal chairs of various sizes that are easily tipped and may be thrown when a student is dys-regulated.

Cube Chairs offer students the ability to sit safely during “Circle” as well as during “Table Groups”.

The flexibility of cube chairs provide students the support to sit “low” on the carpet, approximating sitting on the floor, as well as reversing to a taller chair position to sit at their work tables. With easily moveable chairs, students are provided the opportunity to perform the work of moving chairs, a gross motor movement opportunity.

Some of our students have low muscle tone and these chairs will prevent falls as they are low to the ground and students’ feet touch the floor. Students with balance issues can feel empowered when they are able to easily push a chair to their designated table.

Students deserve a safe and secure environment where they can be independent and participate as active members of their community. These cube chairs will provide the safety, support and engagement that our students need.
