Rookie Classroom: Creating an Environment Fit for Learning
Help me give my students a classroom that will inspire them to connect to nature and inquiry by providing them with a nature inspired seating area and basic curriculum books that help them continue learning.
I'm so excited to be a first year Kindergarten teacher! I get to teach two half-day classes of 20 children each. I love to work with children and help them become scholars, citizens and friends! I want my students not only to learn in my classroom but to thrive. They need to be given opportunities to learn and teach each other through cooperative learning groups, modeling concepts, engaging interactive learning, and meaningful teacher/student dialogue.
The only problem is I'm a new teacher in need of some tools to accomplish my goals.
I will need some basic classroom supplies and items to get the year off to a good start and keep it going all year long. The items in this project will help keep the classroom organized and running smoothly so that all my students have the opportunities they need to learn and thrive in Kindergarten.
My Project
As a "rookie" teacher I do not have a large library of curriculum books. I would like to create a small reading area in my classroom that has a beautiful nature related area rug and books that are focused on the concepts we are learning through out the school year.
The book sets that I've selected give students an opportunity to further engage and understand the concepts we are discussing during class time.
Concepts like STEM science, growing things, math, families, and multicultural stories that help students connect abstract ideas to real life situations. This library will keep children learning.
