Was Friar Lawrence to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet? My eighth grade English students will putting Friar Lawrence on trial for his alleged crimes.

My students have absolutely loved their first steps into reading William Shakespeare's works. We have not just been studying the play, but also the film version. My classes are also excited about their culminating activity - creating a court-room drama script ala Law and Order. Unfortunately, with the schedule that we have this year, my classes would never be able to perform their dramas for each other.

By having a camcorder to tape their dramas, the students will be able to critique their performances in the same way they critiqued the film of Romeo and Juliet. It will also allow students from the various classes watch the dramas starring their friends. It will also allow for a permanent record of these dramas for the eighth grade classes yet to come.

Please help budding actors, screenwriters, directors, and videographers to blossom! Your will help ensure that these English students see Romeo and Juliet in a modern and exciting light.
