Help me give my students a better word work foundation by providing them with a cart to better organize the materials they use to improve their reading/word work skills.
I have been blessed with a wonderful group of first grade students. Throughout our year together, my students grow so much and in so many different ways. Although we have support from our parents and the community, there are still some resources that are not readily available to the teachers or our students.
Our school is a Title I school in a small, rural community with a student population of approximately 600 students.
My students come from various economic backgrounds, and there are many instances where families simply aren't able to provide a wide variety of materials for the most efficient student learning. The students simply use what is available to them. I would love to provide them with more hands-on opportunities to learn.
My Project
My students visit the word work station multiple times a week during our language arts instruction time. At this station, they work with words and phonetic skills that we are learning or have learned.
To help make better use of their station time, my students need a 10-drawer cart to better organize the various word work activities they have to choose from.
These carts will help to separate the different activities along with the needed materials so the students can simply take a drawer from the cart and begin working.
They will have activities such as stamping words or sentences with the ink color of their choice. They might choose to write their words or sentences with colored pencils on the paper. Other drawers will be used to house current materials that are used in the word work station.
