This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students attend a Title 1 funded public elementary school in Philadelphia. With little access to technologies that will grow into usable skills at home, it is up to the school to provide access that will familiarize them with technologies that their peers in more affluent areas have.
My students face many obstacles just to attend school every day.
It is my hope that when they enter my classroom they will have access to the learning experiences that they deserve.
My Project
I was lucky enough to get a free Sphero for my school after for attending a training. This little robot inspired a group of students to create a project to present at our district's Technology Expo this year and they had the best experience!
The more Spheros we have the more kids can be inspired to explore robotics!
My students are already talking about new ideas for next year's expo. It is truly inspirational seeing their motivation, ability to collaborate and desire to delve deeper into the robotics and coding fields of study. I hope to provide more opportunities for more students to explore coding and robotics together using Spheros and Galaxy tablets (w/cases) to run the Sphero EDU app and other available coding apps.
