Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our high school is a small school with big school ambitions. The educators are continuously striving to make themselves better for the wonderful students who attend here. My students are English language learners who are recent immigrants to the United States. Many of my students have experienced interrupted schooling due to war or natural disaster, most recently Hurricane Maria. My students are very eager to learn everything they can to make up for their lost learning time.
If I can provide them the necessary materials to catch up to their peers, my students will shine brightly.
We need to show these students that we care and will do our best to help them in the classroom and in their new country.
My Project
Since Hurricane Maria struck Puerto Rico this past fall, our school has received many new students. Along with these wonderful new students comes the need for more resources.
I have the pleasure of teaching English as a Second Language to these newly arrived teenagers, who display more grit than I ever will.
I travel between three different classrooms throughout the day to serve our students and my current easel is, literally, on its last leg. A new teaching easel with storage space and replacement casters will help me navigate the halls of high school so I can get to my next class on time and continue to help my students learn and reach their goals!
