Help me give my students Sphero robots and electric motor kits so that they can participate in STEM activities and use their creativity to solve problems and create useful tools.
My math and science classes are full of eager, enthusiastic, and curious sixth grade learners with a wide range of abilities, experiences, and needs. The students in each of the two classes I teach range from gifted students to those identified with learning disabilities and speech and language needs.
What I love best about my students is that regardless of their abilities and their differences, they creatively challenge and seek clarification for what they are learning, and strive to find solutions to problems and questions they have.
Students in my classes all share the same common desire to be successful and are motivated to learn, especially when we play brain games, complete break out activities, and when we perform science experiments.
My Project
With the addition of the Sphero robot balls and Electric Motors Catalyst sets to our classroom, students will have opportunities to use their math and science skills in a fun, creative, and engaging manner. These materials will allow for structured learning activities, as well as provide resources for students to explore and problem solve independently or in small group settings. The materials allow students to be flexible with their learning and utilize the many components of the robot balls and motor sets to fit their needs.
In order to prepare students for the future, they need STEM opportunities and the materials in my project will give students the freedom and flexibility to learn our math and science curriculum in addition to exploring other areas of interest.
The materials can be incorporated into the easiest of activities such as a vocabulary review or can be used to brainstorm and solve new ideas and problems during our PLUS period. Students will get opportunities to experiment with coding and programming while using the Sphero robot balls and can build their own inventions using the motor sets. The resources in this project were selected because of the unique components and materials in which they are made, which provide for endless exciting opportunities in our classroom!
