Roller Coasters and Magnets: Engineer Excitement for Science
Help me give my students an Engineer-A-Coaster Activity Kit, Lakeshore Magnet Kit, Stand-Up Magnetic Write & Wipe Center, Giant Magnetic Letters and Numbers, and a Create-A-Path Magnetic Center to explore scientific concepts through play.
My students are curious and ready to learn. We are a bilingual school teaching our students English and Spanish. Our program is located in Philadelphia. We are part of the low income Head Start program that services students from ages 3 to 4. Our goal is to have students ready for kindergarten.
Our school provides a rigorous curriculum for the students along with play-based learning.
We provide a safe and nurturing environment. We are proud that our school has a Keystone Stars 4 rating.
My Project
Using the Engineer-A -Coaster Activity Kit students will learn to manipulate tracks to design their own roller coaster through trial and error. They will explore concepts like speed and momentum, force and motion, angles and trajectories, and size. With the Create-A-Path Magnetic Center students will become scientists and test out their creations. Students will also explore magnets with the Lakeshore Magnet Kit. They will test what items are magnet and what items are not. They will compare different types of magnets and their strength. It's never too early to expose children to scientific concepts. With these materials my students will gain a love of science with fun hands-on materials. Help my young learners build a strong foundation and the confidence to explore the world around them.
