Help me give my students whiteboards & dice (of many sides/features) to allow them to have hands on tools for learning to add, multiply & subtract! Many games & practice drills can be used with these materials.
Currently, my students are learning remotely and they have done so since the beginning of the school year. Due to this situation, my school is combining our 2nd grades and we are team teaching. Therefore, I am the math teacher for 40 students. These kids are hard working and determined. Learning to add and subtract 3 digit numbers (while regrouping hundreds, tens, and ones) WITHOUT hands on materials has been tough but my students have been TOUGHER! They are doing it!! They draw their thinking, respond via whiteboards and describe in words how they get their answers. This is all so very challenging over ZOOM and with so many technology issues. Yet day after day THEY ALL SHOW UP...READY TO LEARN. They are giving it all they've got!
My Project
Many children don't have whiteboards at home. They are struggling to show their work, during our live zooms, using pencil and paper, which is difficult for their computer cameras to show and me, their teacher to see.
The whiteboards allow for easy, quick responses with age appropriate materials!
Kids need this tool and less time using "virtual" response tools. A marker and whiteboard means they are still practicing writing and the fine motor skills needed to successfully write.
The dice allow for random number practice for subtracting from 20, multiplying (dice within a dice or 10 sided) and adding on from 10. Real tools make learning more fun and more memorable and encourage extra practice!
