I teach 3rd grade at a Title I school, and I love teaching here because I am fortunate enough to experience diversity in a strong community, along with the love and acceptance that comes with it.
I have a class of 24 students that come from diverse backgrounds, many of whom do not have access to the technology needed to become 21st century learners.
My students are wonderful, precocious, inquisitive learners who are ready to learn and grow academically and technologically. They thrive on projects that allow them to discover and to collaborate with fellow classmates while solving real-world problems.
My Project
I chose to get 8 Sphero spark robots for my classroom. The Sphero is an amazing tool that will be used to enhance learning in the classroom by transforming teaching and learning across various curriculum areas. Spheros are tennis-ball sized robots that connect via Bluetooth to a mobile device. The Sphero can roll in any direction; they can spin, flip, and change color. Students can use apps to control the Sphero accurately using code. They are very versatile and will engage and empower my students in many ways. Spheros are a fun way to learn coding, problem solving, and critical thinking skills needed to prepare students for a future in which there are many jobs yet to exist.
