Roll It!

Help me give my students a mini slab roller to create sculptures. They will be able to roll a piece of clay with the same thickness all the way around.

My Students

The school is a Title 1 School and the population is culturally diverse and represents all socioeconomic levels. Our school has been faced with financial cut backs which in turn have hurt my art program. My students enjoy when they see me coming down the hall towards their class because they love art. Some students struggle in academics, but they shine in art class which helps their self-esteem. The students in my classes come from a range of ethnic and economic backgrounds, and many are provided free and reduced lunch.

My Project

My students need a mini slab roller to create sculptures and this would enable me to put it on my art cart that I travel with from classroom to classroom. They will have another method of clay building that would add to creating more dimension to their clay sculpture. The art students will benefit from having the same thickness in their clay sculptures otherwise there would be a risk of breakage when fired in the kiln.

The new mini slab roller will give my students the opportunity to have more choices to explore and create in hand building their clay pieces.

Hopefully they will have the opportunity to build a clay sculpture using the mini slab roller. I can't tell you how the mini slab roller would change the whole look of the piece and the students can achieve what they envision for their sculpture.
