Mrs. Sanchez from Vanderwagen NM is requesting Books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a library cart to have an organized library and have easy access to the books in our classroom. By having the book bins, books can be separated by genre, author, or themes.
My third grade students live in a rural community on the Navajo Nation. Some live in traditional Navajo hogans with no running water or electricity, and some live in regular homes as the rest of us do. Almost all my studrents live on dirt roads, and when it rains or snows , it is a struggle for them to get to the bus or to school, but they make it to school, ready to learn. Our school offers free breakfast and lunch for all our students. We also have a backpack club for those who need a little extra food on the weekends.
The students in my classroom are bright and eager to learn.
Some of my students are students with learning and emotional disabilities. We are definitely the eclectic class of the school, but we are also the most loved in our school.
Choice is a big word in our classroom. Allowing the students to make free choices in our classroom helps them to learn responsibility and choose what works best for them. With this class, they have to begin to learn to make good choices and know what works for them. This is what we are working on
I moved from first to third grade on a days notice the day before school started this year. It took some to time to fall in love with third because for 10 years I taught first and loved it. I had an organized library full of picture books for my littles, arranged by author and themes. My library for my first graders worked.
Now, I have to rebuild an organized library for my older kids with more challenging books.
By having this rolling cart with tubs, the students will have easy access to a wide range of books to suit their reading level and interest.
Teachers always dream about having an amazing classroom library for our students. Working in a rural area where students have to drive up to 25 miles to even get to the nearest public library can be a challenge. A once a week visit to our school library isn't sufficient either. To have access to books 7.5 hours out of the day for them to read at their pleasure in the classroom is my vision for my students.
