This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are such great storytellers and love role-playing. They have so many stories to share. They come up with some of the most outrageous characters doing some of the most outlandish things.
Role-playing through storytelling allows children to step out of their comfort zone and express their creative side.
Students need time to build their oral and social skills, and role-playing is a great way to achieve this. I love to listen to the stories they share during morning meeting time and throughout our day. They will stop me in the middle of our small group lesson to tell me something that they feel is important to them, and it's usually about something they previously did or created in our classroom.
I feel providing them with materials that will help them tell their stories will boost their creativity.
My Project
It is hard for young children to write about their thoughts but providing them with a platform to act them out makes it easier. Taking on roles helps students picture real-life situations and reenact them.
Role-playing helps children release their hidden talents.
Children want to share their experiences but often have difficulty expressing their thoughts. Role-playing allows them to freely express what thoughts come into their head at that moment. Storytelling through role-playing brings their real-life scenarios into the classroom and gives the students an opportunity to share their experiences and expertise about various subjects with their classmates.
