My Students
My students range in age from 5-12 years old (grade levels K-6). As an Instructional Support Teacher, I work with kids who have significant challenges in academics, specifically in reading. Our school is culturally diverse and a large part of our population deals with social economic challenges.
My students love reading; however, they are easily frustrated with finding books at their ability level that interest them.
My students are reading 1-2 years below grade level. Having high-interest, low level books would give my students that extra boost of excitment for reading!
My Project
I work with students of various grade levels who struggle with reading text. Given that they are reading below grade level, it can be difficult to find a book that both interests them and that they can read. One of the best ways to work on reading with students is through time in text. By having books that they can be successful reading and that they are interested in helps to ignite that love of learning and can help them excel in their reading skills. Imagine the worlds that books can open up. Please help me grow student minds through the love of reading. Explore the possibilities.
