Reality is hard right now. This year, my students need a way to escape from the issues of the world. While school may look a little different, the use of books to dip into a fantasy world hasn’t changed.
My students are eager to expand their knowledge and their depth of literature.
I am eager to help them get there!
Each year, the 8th grade team runs 4 unique units meant to introduce the students to genres they may not be introduced to, otherwise. Because of this, I want to fill my classroom library with options that our school doesn’t have, but students find equally engaging.
My 8th graders usually enter the school with apprehension when it comes to reading, but by the end of the year they feel a little more confident. The only difference between apprehensive readers and confident readers? Engaging texts! Help me fill my classroom library with engaging texts that my students will devour.
My Project
My students get to pick the books they read. Due to this, I want to be able to provide them with well-known, popular, and diverse collections.
The selected texts will give my students the opportunity to choose a text their engaged by, while expanding their knowledge of cultures outside of their own.
These books will be added to my personal classroom collection; which is currently very small. The library at our school is working to grow their collections, but if I could supply books for struggling and advanced readers in my own classroom, it will ignite the spark with no wait time from the school library!
