My first grade students are eager to learn and they soak up information like sponges. However, my students are also very active. Asking my students to sit still all day and be quiet would be the most unfair and unrealistic thing I could do. They learn best and are most engaged when moving around and interacting with their environment. Anything I can do to incorporate movement into my lessons helps everyone learn better.
My students and I are a family so I want our classroom to feel like home.
They call me mom sometimes by accident, and I call them my kids. I take care of them and they trust me to not only teach them but to comfort and support them. I do whatever I can to accommodate their individual needs so they can each shine. I love my students and I look forward to seeing their sweet smiles every morning. Everyday we start fresh and work together to learn and have fun.
My Project
My students need a leveled book set with interesting topics to support their individual learning goals.
Reading can be fun when you have great books to read, especially the books that focus on serial characters, animals, and amusing topics like the park promoting interest in the various topics.
The students come into school every day eager to learn something new.
Every day the students meet with me for guided reading and also to read independently. Learning how to read with guided support from a teacher is easier when the topic is relevant to the student. Using students' interests as a bridge to what they already know will help us as we teach them the skills and strategies they must use to become great readers. The students then move to independent reading with the same book and read it independently, share with others how they read it, and later will be partnered to read to each other with different books. This engages all readers and helps them understand the importance of reading. As we move into daily writing, the role of good books during reading time is important. To become great writers, they must be exposed to great books. For first grade students, books about fiction and nonfiction characters encourage their love of reading. This makes writing about such topics easier because they see one way it could be done.
Your support will bring quality books to my classroom that the students can read and share together as they develop their reading skills.
Thank you for learning more about my students and why these books will benefit them.
